| Bookies favourite, and rostrum finisher last season, Michael Plant stormed to victory and into the British Under 21 Final with a fine 14 point haul in the first Semi Final. Robbie Cormack, Ryan Betts and Frankie Young were also tipped to make progress and did so with little trouble. 16 year old Michael France, looking to emulate his brother Ray in winning this title, had engine problems in one ride but confirmed himself as one of the favourites to challenge strongly in the final in his other races. Competition for the final spots was close with Sebastian Cartwright and Will Hunstman both impressive to make progess and Ethan Ashby also qualifying, despite a heat 8 exclusion. Andrew Knapkin came close but scored just 1 point after the interval and ended up with one of the reserve places for the final in 2 weeks' time. |

| According to the pre-meeting odds Marcus Jay was the one to beat in this meeting and it proved too much for anyone to do over the 20 heats as he topped the scoreboard. Behind him Dwyer, Honey, Bremner, Case, Hedge (the only 16 year old to qualify) and Golden all scored double figures to qualify with quite a gap to spare. Down the order Richard Dempsey took advantage of misfortune for other riders to score 8 points and qualify in the final spot, despite not managing to win a heat. Ralph Whelan and Noah Nicholson were both expected to qualify but pulled up in early heats, Whelan leaving himself too much to do after the interval and Nicholson falling when trying too hard to pick up the points he desperately needed in heat 17. It has been confirmed that Whelan will be first reserve for the final so if anybody does suffer a knock in the next few weeks he may still get his chance. |
