| BRITISH FINAL |
| PETER DOYLE has been showing some fine form in Europe this season but it was still a huge surprise to see him crowned as British Champion after he got the better of Nick Ambrose in a run-off. The surprises didn't end there however as JOHN SCOTNEY finished third, joining Doyle in making comfortable progress to the GP Challenge Semi Finals also. With current GP riders not needing to qualify for the GP Challenge meetings the qualifying positions went down to 9th in this meeting and were taken by IAIN HINES, JAMIE VAUGHAN and MICHAEL PLANT. The performances of Hines and Plant were excellent as they upset a few more fancied names in making progress with Edgar, Groves and Trowbridge all fancied by the bookies but never really looking very likely to do enough. David Charlton missed the meeting with an injury but had the, small, consolation of being a current GP rider so at least not having to put his fate in the hands of the Wild Card selectors for the GP Challenge. David Bedford was unlucky to miss the meeting through an injury picked up the day before but, as a current GP rider, obviously isn't worried about qualification with a place in at least the GP Challenge guaranteed. |
