EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX

STEEN ERIKSEN (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) won the 5th GP of the season to pull himself 5 points clear at the top of the leaderboard and give himself a real chance of lifting a first world title with an excellent display which could have been even better but for a fall in one ride.  Behind him in the Grand Final was Wild Card pick GOTE NORDVALL (HULL ANGELS) as the Power League star, who will be highly fancied to challenge in next week's World U21 Final, totalled 18 points, the highest return in the meeting.  BORIS DVOYNEV (WEDNESFIELD WANDERERS) and DENNIS GROVES (AMSTERDAM ANACONDAS) completed the Grand Final result, the latter in from reserve once again and putting himself just outside the top 8 places overall.

FILLIPPE CHONG (WANTAGE KINGS) just missed out on the Grand Final, and was also unlucky with bike problems in an earlier heat, but didn't lose significant ground on the series leader and moved up 2 places to 3rd overall.  GABRYS IRZYK (FALMOUTH FALCONS) returned a solid 11 point total and stays in 2nd place overall, just 5 adrift of top spot.  The pair took advantage of an injury to BOGUSLAW KRYZNOWEK (MILTON KEYNES CATS) who missed the meeting after a fall the day before whilst riidng for the Knights; Kryznowek drops to 5th overall but happily is expected to be fit for the next round, although it looks likely this knock may have cost him a shot at the title now.  Other Semi Finalists on the day were TIBOR NEMECEK (KING'S LYNN LIGHTNING) and HENRIK HANSEN (HAMPDEN EAGLES) and their points push them both into the top 8 places overall.

World Champion LUKE TREADWELL (TEESSIDE TRANSPORTERS) picked up 7 points but needs to produce better as he finds himself 15th overall now, 11 points outside the top 8 spots.  It wasn't a great day for HAYDEN WOOD (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) either with just 6 points seeing him fall further behind the top spot overall, but he does remain in 4th place and very much challenging at the top end of the leaderboard.  HANS E BERGESTOL (TEESSIDE TRANSPORTERS) and LIAM REAY (TILBURY DOCKERS) both scored 5 points and drop out of the top 8 places.  4 points was the return for DAVID BEDFORD (KING'S LYNN LIGHTNING), NICK AMBROSE (WANTAGE KINGS) & RUDI JURITZEN (OSLO OWLS).  Bedford returned from missing the last round through injury, which had seen him fall from 2nd overall, but he hangs on to 6th place for the time being and will want to do better in the final 3 rounds.  BRAXTON MCCHESNEY (SHEFFIELD DONS) continued his GP struggles, with just 2 points here, and his chances of getting into the top 8 places by the end of the series are not looking great.  The other rider to take to the track, for just a single race, was reserve Chris Adams but it's always tough to come cold into a field of this standard and he didn't trouble the scorers.
