A famous name in British speedway won the JJ Grand Final. Former world finalist and England international Rob London looked on as his son Mark (Ipswich) raced to an excellent victory. He racked up 4 impressive victories before meeting his closest rival Sebastien Cartwright (London) in heat 19. London only required a second place to win the title. As it turned out 1 point was enough as Cartwright finished in last place. Cartwright's 10 point score was matched by Leo Poole (Bottesford) and Ellis Nelson (Harlow). All 3 of these riders had a last place in their score which London had managed to steer clear of. The run-off for 2nd was won by Poole with Cartwright just behind and Nelson at the back.

A couple of the pre-meeting favourites were just behind the podium riders. Jordan Osgood (Burslem) and Jon Stark (Teesside) were predicted to go well and although they did, early last place finishes put them off the pace. Martyn Pytek (Tunstall) was looking like he could make the rostrum but fell short after a last place in his final ride. Unluckiest rider was Danny Davenport (Tilbury) who was riding well and had 7 points until a nasty spill in his 4th ride meant he could take no further part in the meeting. The rest of the field were never really in contention although there were heat wins for Dean Underwood (Cleator Moor) and Llifon Jones (Abertillery) and who knows what might have been for Nathan Green (Sheffield) whose 1 ride produced 3 points and happened to be in that heat 19 against the top 2 riders at the time.

Time will tell how many of these riders will make it onto the big stage. For now most of them will make the step into the Academy League. With the backing of his Father maybe Mark London will be a rider who can emulate his Dad and make it to the very top.
