DANISH GRAND PRIX

TIBOR NEMECEK (KING'S LYNN LIGHTNING) proved that he is a more serious competitor for the title than his opening round had suggested by taking victory in the Danish GP and firing himself up to joint 5th and in amongst the serious contenders after 2 rounds.  On home shale HENRIK HANSEN (HAMPDEN EAGLES) did likewise, matching Nemecek's 14 point haul, and moving to 4th overall.  GABRYS IRZYK (FALMOUTH FALCONS) finished 3rd last season overall and also 3rd in this round to put himself 3rd overall again, just 5 points behind the early series leader BOGUSLAW KRYZNOWEK (MILTON KEYNES CATS) who finished last in the Grand Final but scored more than anyone else, with 15 points, to take a clear lead at the top of the standings.

DAVID BEDFORD (KING'S LYNN LIGHTNING) had another good round 2, totalling 12 points and putting himself 2nd overall.  Other Semi Finalists were wild card LEON JEPPESEN (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) who impressed throughout, former champion NICK AMBROSE (WANTAGE KINGS) and FILLIPPE CHONG (WANTAGE KINGS) who looked like he could have done better but for an engine failure in an earlier heat and a fall in the Semi Final.

BRAXTON MCCHESNEY (SHEFFIELD DONS) failed to win a race but picked up 8 useful points and it places him just outside the top 8 at this early stage of the series.  HAYDEN WOOD (LANARKSHIRE LIONS), DENNIS GROVES (AMSTERDAM ANACONDAS) and STEEN ERIKSEN (LANARKSHIRE LIONS) all scored 7 points.  Groves was once again called up from reserve to compete, this time replacing the unlucky defending champion Luke Treadwell who picked up a knock in the UK the day before, and did well once more; but for an engine failure he could have made it to the latter stages and it will be interesting to see if he gets a wild card pick if everyone is fit for the next round to enable him to keep up a challenge.  The rest of the field struggled to make an impression as RUDI JURITZEN (OSLO OWLS), LIAM REAY (TILBURY DOCKERS) and HANS E BERGESTOL (TEESSIDE TRANSPORTERS) scored 4 each and BORIS DVOYNEV (WEDNESFIELD WANDERERS) just 3.  Reay was somewhat of a surprise near the bottom end of the scorechart and he slips to 8th overall and will be wanting to improve quickly if we wants to challenge at the top of the series totals as we have become accustomed to seeing him do.  Bergestol was just back from injury and didn't look fully fit, pulling up at the back in one heat, but scored in his other races and looks set to get back to his best in the coming weeks.
