WORLD UNDER 21 SEMI FINAL

The top 5 in the pre-meeting betting filled the top 5 spots in this Semi Final, with Gote Nordvall taking first place on the rostrum ahead of Rickie Keyse and Anders Solberg, who fought back after a second ride exclusion.  19 year old Janusz Pala impressed in reaching 11 points, the same total as Kenni Algreen who cruised through with no real worries.  17 year old Czech starlet Petr Marko fell in his first race but hit back in fine style to hit double figures and qualify with room to spare.  The final places were taken by young Scot Robbie Cormack, also just 17, and Croatian Zeljko Lesnik.

There were no huge shocks amongst the riders who didn't make it although Adam Bridgett was probably hoping for better than a reserve place in the week 15 final and Aussie Pat Watkiss seemed to struggle with engine problems.  Vaclav Ruzucha began with a good win but failed to bounce back from a retirement and a fall and crashed out of the championship.

WORLD UNDER 21 SEMI FINAL

The top names progressed with relative ease in the other Semi Final.  American Jack Hagen showed why many are tipping him as a potential winner this season with a flawless 15 point maximum.  Joining him on the rostrum were Hans Benkarth and 18 year old Ray France, who many experts also believe to be capable of making a strong showing for the title in the Final.  Young English duo Michael Plant (just 17 years of age) and Michael France (still only 16) also qualified and will be looking forward to competing on the international stage in a few weeks' time.  Scotland's Carl McKinlay started the meeting well and maintained his performance to see himself over the line and into the final 16 alongisde the other Brits.  Janek Bartousek is another name many are suggesting will be in the hunt for the title and he also qualified after overcoming some bike troubles which clearly hampered his scoring.  The last spot went to Denmark's Kenneth Krogh, who finished with a crucial win in heat 20 to get to 8 points and wrap up qualification.

Again no real shocks in those who couldn't quite make the last step to the final although Leo McFarlane looked like he wanted more than the reserve spot in the final but starting and ending with pointless rides left him short of the required target.  18 year old Tommy Davey, of Wales, put up a brave showing but fell a point short of the top 8 places, although obviously he will have further chances to go further in this competition in future seasons.
